The 'way of being' developed through Mindfulness can bring relief in many areas of our lives, including relationships, pain, illness, sleep, anxiety and stress and this has been very well shown in research by teams such as those led by Jon Kabat Zinn and Mark Williams. Mindfulness has also been shown to have great benefit in organisations bringing the focus of teams to the task at hand, opening up creativity, helping individuals manage their own health and helping individuals and teams flourish, with better social cohesion.

Using mindfulness we can come into the joy of the present moment. One of the ways many people find they can reach that space is out in nature. For example it is very easy to go on a walk and charge around that walk without really noticing what we're doing, another thing to tick off the to do list! What if we take notice of what's around us? We could look at the gnarliness of the trees, listen to the bird song, become aware of the process of each step and how the weight on our feet can be like a rolling forward motion.

That experience has just become much more beautiful, peaceful and settling. This is the energy of mindfulness.

Mindfulness is also about promoting attitudes such as compassion, being non judgemental, accepting and gratitude. Sometimes we seem to forget that we are biological systems/animals not machines and our bodies need to be taken care of. Kindness can be so powerful. When we are dealing with difficulties it's easy to push away our feelings emotional or physical within mindfulness we can learn a way of holding ourselves that is much more comfortable and supportive of recovery from many health conditions as Alison has observed teaching Meditation and Mindfulness in Exeter.

It can feel very difficult to still our minds when we first start, perfectly exemplified by Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love; her thoughts veering from where to live, to building meditation rooms until a whole 2 minutes has elapsed. Pitching the techniques at the right level for you at the time is important and can allow us to develop the skill and reap the rewards of a peaceful mind! This mindful way of being can be strengthened through practise, much as a muscle improves performance through repetition. In this way we can approach the more challenging meditations at a later date, once our skills are honed.

Alison's Mindfulness base has been informed by years of practise and from her studies in Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy, aswell as studying the Mindfulness Teaching Course with Mindfulness Now. She particularly enjoys the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh (Plum Village) but likes to take inspiration from many sources to continually develop her classes in Meditation and Mindfulness in Exeter.

As well as teaching Meditation and Mindfulness in Exeter in person; Alison is also available to teach online. These sessions can be for businesses or the public, on-line or in person.  She can also tailor in person courses for groups or businesses in the wider UK.
