Reiki typically involves unblocking flows in the body using Universal Energy or 'ki' poured through the body. The flow of 'ki' can be in any of the flows in the body, blood, lymph, nerves, central spinal fluid. Alison reguarly uses Reiki in Exeter and Exminster for anxiety, fatigue, depression, pain and injury in particular ways to suit what is happening for the client.
Sessions with Alison can be very intuitive with her or the client gaining insights into what is happening, which can be visual/dreamlike. The universal energy or 'ki' can be worked with in an abstract way directing it with intention to any part of the client. This may be to a part of the anatomy that is suffering from an injury, tension, inflamation or damage. The Reiki energy can also be directed to an insubstantial or representative of the client such as the emotional centre, child part or part that was effected by a particular trauma. Physical or emotional trauma that has been stuck can come forward and release in a safe resourced place.
Just for today,
Free from anger,
Free from worry,
Humble, honest,
compassionate...

Reiki in Exeter - Level 1
"Heartfelt thanks for the Reiki Level 1 session you gave me today. I know it is transforming my life in every way which is quite unique, it’s a wonderful, living gift for me and for my daughter. " Claire
15th & 16th August 2026, 12th & 13th September £150
The Practice Rooms Exeter, 15-16 Castle St in Exeter, England EX4 3PT
Reiki level 1 is about connecting to the energy, developing a sensitivity to Reiki, working on yourself and others.
I’m connected to 2 lineages of Reiki, one more typical branch that uses attunements and secondly one that uses empowerments. Empowerments are more connected with the founder Usui Mikao’s own methods. Martial artist, Chris Marsh tried to get in touch as far as is possible with some of the techniques Mikao Usui used himself on his pupils. He received instruction and empowerments from Suzuki San, a Tendai Buddhist nun taught by Usui. Usui’s teachings were intended more as a self-realization path than for healing others, although Chris Marsh always argued that reiki only helps people heal themselves.
The weekend is £150 and includes an excellent manual by Taggart King which people should use for self-study before the course.
After the course there will be regular Reiki shares and opportunities to be part of a community of Reiki in Exeter. To allow everyone to continue to connect, practice and receive regular empowerments, as Usui would have done with his students. Fostering a mindful way of being in your life, is considered as important as the energy work for spiritual development.

Reiki in Exeter- Level 2
27th September, 4th October 9.30 - 1:00 - £180
The Practice Rooms Exeter, 15-16 Castle St in Exeter, England EX4 3PT
Reiki Level 2 is about developing your connection, abilities and intuition with Reiki. During the course you will learn 3 symbols; Earth Ki, Heavenly Ki and the Oneness symbol. The Earth Ki symbol, helps us to ground ourselves and is more tuned to work with the body, healing physical symptoms.
The Heavenly Ki symbol is designed to work with mental energy helping to balance our emotional self. The Oneness symbol can be used to work at a distance or in a more abstract way. It can also bring a wonderful connected feeling like you might work towards with meditation. Mikao Usui originally directed his students to meditate on Waka poetry and the chant in order to become adept at using the different energies.
Mikao Usui was then asked to provide a shortcut to helping Naval Officers heal when there was a limited number of medically trained staff. The shortcut became teaching symbols. These symbols were then passed to the West, forming part of Western style Reiki.
Alison teaches Reiki in Exeter in a way that tries to combine Usui's original techniques while keeping the student's abilities on a level with Western Reiki courses.
This course can be taken to develop your own personal practice but also qualifies participants to become a Reiki practitioner. After this course it is possible to gain Mentoring from Alison to boost your confidence as a practitioner.

Reiki History
Finding the truth about the origins of Reiki can be a little complex. Sources on the internet say it comes from Atlantis, It was developed by a Christian Dr, it's faith healing, it was invented by a Japanese Buddhist, it's for any or no faith and it's a complementary medicine.
These last 3 are true, Reiki was developed by a Japanese Buddhist called Mikao Usui. He would teach his system across Japan to students as spiritual development and self healing. Being able to heal others was initially a side effect but came to the forefront when he taught naval officers such as Dr Hayashi a shortcut to healing. They were not interested in the spiritual side of Reiki.
Reiki comes to the West
Initially a sceptic, Hawayo came to Tokyo for a variety of debilitating conditions (including gall stones and asthma). Lying on the operating table – she apparently heard a voice that the operation wasn’t necessary. She then asked her Dr if there was anything else and was recommended Reiki. She was convinced that Reiki worked after she apparently made a fast recovery and was taught to teach Reiki by Hayashi.
Hawayo returned to her home in Hawaii and setup a Reiki clinic going on to teach Reiki across America including 21 Masters.
Hawayo adapted the techniques to be more acceptable to her Western clients. She loved to tell stories and Usui became a travelling Christian searching for understanding of Jesus’ miracles. Hawayo told that he finally received enlightenment and knowledge of Reiki during a 21-day fast meditation on Mount Kurama.
Reiki practitioners channel 'ki' energy to work with a client’s own ki system. This can improve function of the mind, body and spirit, allow healing and break down any blockages. This ‘ki ‘ or ‘chi’ energy is also found in Martial Arts, Acupuncture and Tai Chi and Reiki is now often combined with Chakra work.
Reiki originated in Japan as Mikao Usui taught others a path to enlightenment, with healing abilities as a side extra. Late in his life, Mikao developed the use of symbols so that he could teach Medical Officers to heal more quickly. Variations of these symbols are now used throughout the world in various different branches of Reiki. Alison has studied the Japanese style of Reiki in Exeter, which is as close as possible to Mikao Usui's original method.
During a first treatment of Reiki Therapy Alison takes a case history and then uses a variety of hand positions to channel ‘ki’ where it is needed. Alison would love to hear from you and invites you to find out more or book an appointment for Reiki in Exeter or Exminster.
Reiki in Exeter for Anxiety, Depression, Fatigue and more
During sessions Alison often uses Reiki as a treatment for anxiety, depression and fatigue. Alison gently soothes the nervous system, brain stem, circulation and muscles. Any parts of the body that require it, that seem to be holding something. This allows emotional, spiritual and physical events to come forward and process in a safe space. She uses Reiki to release blockages, allowing the whole system to work more effectively. She can help build energy reserves and the client to align with a more positive energy, helping people in their inner or outer journey.
Some of the best research into holistic therapies has been undertaken for using Reiki for anxiety and depression and even physical conditions. For some time there have been many anecdotes about how helpful people have found Reiki Therapy, but the scientific community requires comprehensive studies.
A large scale research study was undertaken recently into the effects of a single session of Reiki Therapy. This was conducted by Dr Natalie Leigh Dyer of Harvard Medical School (among others). The study concluded that 'a single session of Reiki improves multiple variables related to physical and psychological health' showing that Reiki is an ideal choice for all sorts of conditions including anxiety. This has been published here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31638407. The qualitative results are to be published later this year, see https://www.centerforreikiresearch.org for more details.
