Having a different positive feeling can help to retrain the body to normalise the response to sensations. Swedish Massage can also stimulate people suffering from mental or physical fatigue.
Easing out knots in our muscles can bring so many benefits. There are so many improvements in our sense of wellbeing that we can experience from releasing tensions in our muscles and letting go with our minds. Swedish Massage in Exeter for Fatigue and Chronic Pain
Is Swedish Massage for helpful for Fatigue and Chronic Pain?
During Fatigue conditions research has shown that more toxins are present than in those without Fatigue. A Swedish Massage can help support toxin removal, stimulating the body’s natural systems, releasing tensions and galvanizing blood and lymph flow. It can help to move toxins in the direction of healthy lymph and venous flow and encourage elimination from the body so that homeostasis is more able to re-establish.
After many years of experience supporting people with a variety of fatigue conditions Alison has found being able to relax deeply is key to improving and Swedish Massage can be a lovely way to support relaxation. However Alison has also found the right level of treatment is important for where a client is at the time. As the nervous system can become dysregulated in Fatigue conditions, during severe cases a more gentle treatment may be more helpful.
Dr Perrin has shown that key mechanisms in M.E. (Myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue) involve disregulation of the nervous system. He has published photos of megalymphatics occurring in ME, as a result of this disregulation. This leads to the lymphatics pumping out of sequence, impeding their ability to remove toxins, sometimes even leading to them draining backwards.
The Perrin technique includes various massage techniques such as effleurage to stimulate the lymphatic system and aid removal of toxins. It also includes Craniosacral Therapy and manipulation of key areas in the spine to relieve tension and aid homeostasis. Alison is a fully licensed Perrin practitioner.
The History of Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is often attributed to Swede Peter Henry Ling (1776-1837) although it was not in fact part of Ling's Swedish Gymnastic Movements nor the curriculum of the Royal Central Gymnastic Institute that he founded in 1813.
Many physicians attribute Dutch practitioner Johan Georg Mezger (1838-1909) as the man who adopted the French names used today to describe the different massage strokes. He developed the 'Swedish Movement System' which later became 'Swedish Massage System' and as these definitions were widely used they were also used to describe techniques when Ling's works were printed.
By 1890 various books included descriptions of Swedish Massage or 'Classic Massage' using the system developed by Mezger. The techniques were broadly used in sanitariums around Europe and North America, including in John Harvey Kellogg, M.D. 's famous sanitarium.
These publications achieved a seperation of massage from gymnastic techniques, allowing massage to become a stand-alone therapeutic technique for the first time in history. See [4] for further reading.
